Wigan Athletic Wiki
Wigan Athletic, a Premier League team based in Wigan, Greater Manchester, was established in 1932. They set a record for the biggest win by a non-league club over a league club during the 1934-35 FA Cut.
They play at DW Stadium, which holds 25,138 and is part of the Robin Park complex in Wigan. It has been their home ground since 1999 after Springfield Park was demolished to build a housing development. The team's rivals are the Bolton Wanderers, Oldham Athletic and Preston North End. Their fans are known as "pies" or "pie eaters", a reference to the General Strike in 1926 when the Wigan miners had to "eat humble pie" by returning to work before striking miners in other towns.
Roberto Martinez, an accomplished professional midfielder, manages the team; he was previously with Swansea City, who lost just once in eleven games under his guidance. Wigan Athletics' home colors are blue shirts and shorts with a white vertical stripe and away colors are black. They were Second Division Champions once, earned one Third Division championship and have won 2 Football League trophies. Wigan Athletic has won a Northern Premier League Challenge Cup and twice were Northern Premier League champions.
