Manchester United Wiki
Manchester United, a Premier League team is one of the most popular, wealthy and valuable football clubs in the world and is worth just over £1 billion. It was founded in 1878 as the Newton Heath LYR Football Club and changed to its present name in 1902. It was the first FC to win the European Cup in 1968. Its success was marred by tragedy in 1960 when 8 team members died in the Munich air disaster.
The team plays at Old Trafford, a field that has been changed and updated over the years and now seats over 75,000 spectators. Their rivalry with Liverpool dates from the industrial revolution when Manchester produced textiles and Liverpool was a major seaport. Their contentious relationship with Leeds originates from the War of the Roses when the House of Lancaster and the House of York were pitted against each other.
Colors consist of a white shirt with red and black flashes on the sleeves, black shorts and white socks. Away colors are white and gold; colors used to be grey but they couldn't find each other in the crowd.
Manchester United is currently managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, their most successful manager in history. They've won 27 major honors since he came aboard in 1986. The team has won 19 league titles, 11 FA Cups and 4 League Cups and 3 European Cups. They were world champions twice.
