Newcastle United, also known as The Magpies or The Toon, are based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. The team was founded in 1892 when the Newcastle West End joined the Newcastle East End. They have played since their early years at St. James Park, which now has the capacity for 52,339 spectators. It is the oldest and largest football stadium in North East England and the sixth largest in the United Kingdom. It is to be used for the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The team currently trains at Darsley Park. There are only two years that they haven't been in the Premier League and they have never dropped below the second tier since 1893. Newcastle United is rivals with Sunderland and have played with them in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898.
The team's colors are black and white striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. The current manager is Alan Pardew.
Newcastle United has an impressive array of honors. They have accumulated 1 UEFA Intertoto Cup, 1 Anglo-Italian Cup, they are four time First Division Champions and three time Northern League Champions. They have won 6 FA Cups, 1 FA Community Shield, 1 Kirin Cup, 2 Texaco Cups and many other lesser honors.
