Manchester City has the distinction of being the only known football team in the world that was founded by a woman. Anna Connell, the daughter of the vicar of St. Mark's, wanted something to keep local men busy and, most importantly, out of the pubs. The team was relegated to the third tier in 1997 but has obtained now top flight status once more. In fact, they qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2011.

The team's home colors sky blue and white. Originally they wore black jerseys with a white cross but changed to blue in 1892. Roberto Mancini has been manager since 2009 with assistant manager Brian Kidd.

Manchester City plays at the City of Manchester Stadium, known as "Eastlands", that seats 47,726 spectators. The team spent more than £30 million to convert the stadium to soccer use, lowering the field, adding seating and a new North Stand.

They have won FC First Division twice, Second Division seven times and were play-off winners in Third Division in 1998-99. The team has won 5 FA Cup, 2 League Cup, 3 Charity Shield, 1 Full Members Cup and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup. Team members have been inducted into the MCFC Hall of Fame and the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.
