Real Zaragoza was founded in 1932 by combining two teams, Iberia SC and Real Zaragoza CD. Just as they were making headway in La Liga the Civil War put a stop to their progress. Since then they have spent most of their history in top flight play and are now the 9th highest ranking football club in Spain. They are rated 6th for cup wins. A Primera Division team, they are nicknamed Bianquillos "(Little Whites", after their shirts) and Manos (someone from the Aragon region).

Zaragoza's home kit consists of white shirts and socks with royal blue shorts while their away colors are black and yellow. Home games are played at La Romareda, a stadium that seats 34,596 people. When they play their rivals, Osasuna, fans can be heard chanting songs demoralizing to the rival team. SD Huesca are Zaragoza's other rivals and it's hard to tell if their matches are friendly or antagonistic. Zaragoza also has a friendly rivalry with CD Numancia.

Zaragoza has won the Copa del Rey 6 times, a Spanish Supercup, an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup once and the Segunda Division once. Manager Javier Aguirre Onaindia, a former Mexican footballer and midfielder, played in the FIFA World Cup in 1986.
