Real Sociedad Wiki

Real Sociedad, a Spanish football club that calls San Sebastian, Basque Country, home was founded in 1909 as the San Sebastian Recreation Club. It was formed by people who had worked and studied in England and developed a real love for football. It is known in Basque as Erreala and txuri-urdin, which both mean "white-blue" in the Basque language, referring to the team colors. For many years the club followed the lead of Athletic Bilbao, another Basque football club, and signed only Basque players but abandoned the policy in 1989.

The team was among the founding members of La Liga in 1928. They changed their name to Donostia Club de Futbol in 1931 but changed it back after the Spanish Civil War.

Real Sociedad plays at Anoeta, a stadium that seats 32,200. Their home colors are white shirts with vertical blue stripes, white shorts and blue socks. Away colors are black shirts with vertical blue stripes, black shorts and black socks.

The team has won La Liga twice, Copa del Rey twice and the Supercops de Espana once. They are also three time Segunda Division winners. The team is managed by Philippe Montanier, a former goalkeeper for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 sides in his home country of France.
