Atletico Madrid Wiki
Atletico Madrid is a football club based in Madrid, Spain. It was founded by three Basque students in 1903 as a youth branch of Athletic Bilbao, their childhood team. Their team colors, white shirts with vertical red stripes, were originally chosen because they could make the uniforms from cast-off striped mattress cover cloth.
Manager Enrique "Quique" Sanchez Florez is a retired right defender whose father was also a professional footballer. He is the nephew of Lola Flores, a Flamenco singer and dancer. As a player he won the Segunda Division and La Liga.
Atletico Madrid plays at Vicente Calderon Stadium, which is scheduled for demolition in order to build a waterfront park. The team will move to Estadio La Peineta, which seats 73,000. They train at Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda, just south of Madrid.
They are 4 time winners of Compeonato Regional Centro, have won La Liga 9 times and the Copa del Rey 9 times. They have won the Copa de Campeones twice and the Supercopa de Espana once. The team has also won the UEFA Europa League once, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup once and the UEFA Super Cup once. Globally, they have brought home one Intercontinental Cup.
