Athletic Bilbao Wiki
Athletic Bilbao is a football club in Biscay, Basque Country. It has been in the Premier Division since its inception in 1928. It was started by British shipyard workers in the early 1890s and originally played games against Basque students that had returned from their studies in England. The club was formally organized in 1898. Their colors are red and white striped shirts with black shorts; they were one of the last major clubs not to have a sponsor's name on their kit.
Manager is Marcelo Alberto Bielsa Caldera, a former defender that earned the name "Madman" during his playing career. He has managed several teams; his ability to improve the teams he has managed has raised him to cult status in the world of football.
Athletic Bilbao plays at San Mames Stadium in the city of Bilbao, which seats nearly 40,000 spectators with an average attendance of 37,575. The team is building a new stadium, San Mames Barria, a UEFA 5-star stadium that seats 53,000 for the 2014/2015 season.
The team has won La Liga 8 times, Copa del Rey 23 times, the Supercopa de Espana once and the Copa Eva Duarte once. Internationally they have won the Small World Club Cup once and achieved runners-up status at the UEFA Cup Europa League.
