S.S.C. Napoli (Societ� Sportiva Calcio Napoli) is an Italian football team based in Naples. This club was founded in 1926, and at that time it was referred to as Associazione Calcio Napoli. This was changed to Societ� Sportiva Calcio Napoli in 1946. In 2004, after the club went bankrupt, it was reformed by Aurelio De Laurentiis, a prominent film producer and the club�s current manager, who also named it Napoli Soccer. However, in early 2006 he changed it back to S.S.C. Napoli.
The colours of the Napoli club are inspired by their location. Since they hail from a coastal area, blue has been the colour of importance, meant to signify the waters of the Gulf of Naples. Napoli has several rivals, mainly Roma. They compete in the Derby del Sole, a rivalry that reached its peak in the 80s.
After a poor performance in 1926-27 they were given the nickname I ciucciarelli which means little donkeys. Although this was meant as a term of disrespect to the horse silhouette on their badge, they adopted the donkey as their mascot, called O Ciuccio. They displayed this mascot with much pride, shutting up all the cheeky people. This and much more make them the most successful club from Southern Italy and the fourth most supported club in Italy.
