Italian Serie A League Wiki
Italian Serie A is now called Serie A TIM since it is sponsored by Telecom Italia. It is a professional league for football clubs at the top of the Italian football league system. Serie A has been in existence since 1929 and due to its slow pace is often called the retirement league. Despite the fact that professional English footballers avoid the league, Serie A has produced the largest number of European Cup finalists of any football organization.
In fact, Serie A can boast the membership of 3 of the most famous clubs in the world - Milan, Internazionale and Juventus. The three teams are founding members of G-14, a group that represents the most prestigious European football clubs. Serie A teams that win multiple championships and other honors have the privilege of displaying gold stars on their team crests and on their jerseys. One star is awarded for every ten titles earned.
Serie A negotiates television rights for the teams to work to the teams' advantage. The rights for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons were sold for an astonishing €1.149 billion. Global rights for those seasons amounted to €181.5 million.
