ACF Fiorentina, based in Florence, Italy, was formed in 1926 as a merger of CS Firenze and PG Libertas. Luigi Ridolfi, a local Natioanl Fascist Party member, came up with the idea of a merger in order to give Florence a football club that could rival the larger clubs in Italy. Fiorentina has been in the top levels of Italian football for most of their existence. Only four other football clubs in Italy have played more Serie A seasons than Fiorentina.
Fiorentina has won 2 Italian Championships, 6 Coppa Italia trophies and one Italian Super Cup. They have 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and were runners-up for the UEFA Cup in 1989-90. The team plays their home matches at Stadio Artemio Franchi; their home colors are purple, their away colors are white and their third kit is yellow. In fact, their home colors inspired their nickname, Viola, which refers to their purple uniforms.
Fiorentina is managed by Sinisa Mihajlovic, a former Serbian footballer who is considered the best free kick taker of all time. He holds the record for free-kick in Serie A and scored 38 goals from free-kicks in his 14 seasons in the top of the Italian League.
