TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is a German football club from Hoffenheim, Baden- Württemberg. Formed in 1945 by the merging of a gymnastics club and a football club, this team has no significant history. In most times, they were considered quite amateur. However, the club made a startling rise to the top of the German football league, Bundesliga in 2008, after a financial backing from an alumnus, Deitmar Hopp.

Deitmar Hopp taking financial responsibility of the club has lead it to great heights. However, this has also earned it a fair share of criticism from the media and public. The recent success of the club is mainly attributed to the great finances provided by Hopp, and fingers are pointed to the lack of tradition of the club, making it more commercial than athletic. This has not brought the club down, as they fight to hold a place in the top leagues.

Currently managed by Ralf Rangnick, the colours of the team are blue and white, as is shown on the crest of the club. The home games were played at the Deitmer-Hopp-Stadion, but from 2009, this location shifted to the Carl-Benz-Stadion in Mannheim, due to its large capacity.
